The Art Practitioner presents - A weekend of drawing tuition and mentoring at Wolterton Hall

Drawing is the foundation of your Art practise, and what more delightful place to learn than in the visually stunning and ultra-comfortable environment of Wolterton Hall? Inspired by the sumptuous visuals and historical drawing devices of the classic 1982 film ‘The Draughtsman’s Contract’ by Peter Greenaway,  ‘The Art Practitioner’ independent art school (artists Jacques Nimki and Stephanie Douet)  will guide you through a variety of structured sessions, between which you will be relaxing in the glamour and comfort of this remarkably beautiful country house, eating delicious home-cooked food and enjoying entertaining and stimulating companionship with art lovers.

No matter what level of experience you are - beginner, returner, professional - you will find plenty to stretch and challenge all aspects of your drawing practise, using the architecture, objects, views and landscape of Wolterton Hall.

Warm-up exercises designed to break you out of your artistic inhibitions, habits and pre-conceptions

  • Technical exercises to sharpen your perceptions and accuracy

  • Composition development using the Hall, its views, architecture and objects, as well as life-drawing ‘living statues’ models on location!

  • Throughout there will be one-to-one tuition and mentoring and group discussions, aimed at fostering an unself-conscious curiosity and pleasure in experiment.

Dates: Friday 7th 5pm to Monday 10th February 10am

Cost: Full board and accommodation and tuition £800. Deposit £120, balance due on January 7th 2020

About the artists:

Jacques Nimki studied at the Chelsea School of Art and the Royal Academy schools. He has been Artist in Residence at the Camden Arts Centre and his work was included in ‘Art of the Garden’ at the Tate Britain. He has had solo exhibitions at the Ikon gallery in Birmingham and at the Approach in London.

He is currently art-in-residence at Plas Glyn y Weddw gallery in Wales. Nimki works from and within the urban landscape, using mainly weeds and flowers as a way of exploring how we perceive others and ourselves within particular environments. He makes a variety of studio/project-based work and site conditioned installations that searches for beauty in the overlooked and unconsidered. These take the form of interventions within natural setting, drawing installations, meadows within buildings, culinary production and both observational drawings and paintings. Work can be found in the Arts Council of England collection and numerous public and private collections worldwide.

Stephanie Douet read Art History from UEA and has an MA in Fine Art from the Norwich University of Arts.She has recently had a solo exhibition in Jaipur and is currently shortlisted for the Contemporary British Painting prize.

She makes richly coloured paintings, sculptures and installations inspired by her reading and looking at  Chinoiserie, historical optics and Mughal miniatures. She is currently in receipt of Arts Council England funding for developing her creative practise, and on the shortlist for the Contemporary British Painting Prize. She has had solo exhibitions at Modern Art Oxford Project Space, Udaipur City Palace, India and the Museum of the History of Science, Technology and Medicine. Group exhibitions include ‘Creekside Open 2019’ selected by Sacha Craddock, ‘OPEM4’ at the Usher gallery, Lincoln, ‘Sinopticon’ at Saltram House and Plymouth Museum and ‘Friday Late’ at V&A.
